How to Make Homemade Ice Cream

Making homemade ice cream is easy and fun! There are so many possibilities for flavors both unique and original. My new favorite flavors include lavender honey and chocolate peanut butter cup. Here is how to make homemade ice cream right at home. Ditch the pricey ice cream shop, save money and impress your family and friends!

I have to admit that one of my weaknesses is eating sweets! I can eat healthy and abstain from alcohol, but I must have my daily dose of sweet. There is always ice cream in my freezer and you bet I eat it!

I think my husband must have realized how much ice cream I go through because he got me this awesome Cuisinart ice cream maker for mother’s day so I can make homemade ice cream.

This ice cream maker is so easy to use and the ice cream turns out phenomenal! It comes with a recipe book with so many homemade ice cream recipes – from the classics to s’mores, sorbets and even custard (one my personal favorites).

How to Make Homemade Ice Cream

What I like most about homemade ice cream is that I can use organic ingredients without unhealthy additives and thickeners like carrageenan. I was even able to substitute granulated sugar for coconut sugar. Best of all? It’s a fun thing to do with my kids!

Here is the recipe for simple homemade vanilla ice cream:

(makes about 5 cups)

  1. 1 cup whole milk (I used organic)
  2. 3/4 cup granulated sugar (I used organic coconut sugar)
    pinch salt
  3. 2 cups heavy cream (I used organic)
  4. 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract (I used bourbon vanilla extract)

There are so many other flavor options like strawberry, chocolate and my newest favorite lavender honey.

Follow the simple directions in the manual included with the ice cream maker and be prepared to be blown away by this homemade ice cream recipe!

Making more unique flavors is easy to do. For example, I simmered dried lavender flowers in the milk and then strained it. I also substituted honey for sugar. With the milk and heavy cream as your base, anything else you add is the cherry on top. Enjoy making the best ice cream flavors ever!

You can also build your own acai bowls this summer!
