How To Make Homemade Ice Cream

I have to admit that one of my weaknesses is eating sweets! I can eat healthy and abstain from alcohol, but I must have my daily dose of sweet. There is always ice cream in my freezer and you bet I eat it! I think my husband must have realized how much ice cream I go through and he got me this awesome Cuisinart ice cream maker for mother’s day.

This ice cream maker is so easy to use and the ice cream turns out phenomenal!!! It comes with a recipe book with so many recipes – from the classics to s’mores, sorbets and even custard (one my personal favorites). What I like most about it is that I can use organic ingredients without unhealthy additives and thickeners like carrageenan. I was even able to substitute granulated sugar for coconut sugar. Best of all? It’s a fun thing to do with my kids!

Here is the recipe for simple vanilla ice cream:

(makes about 5 cups)
1 cup whole milk (I used organic)
3/4 cup granulated sugar (I used organic coconut sugar)
pinch salt
2 cups heavy cream (I used organic)
1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract (I used bourbon vanilla extract)

Follow the simple directions in the manual included with the ice cream maker and be prepared to be blown away!
