Make your own Baby Food

Here is everything you need to know about how to make your own baby food! When packaged baby purees can cost upwards of $1-2 per serving, it can become very costly to feed your baby. Not to mention, packaged baby food, even those that are organic, are made using high heat, many of the nutrients are lost during processing.

A cheaper and healthier alternative to store-bought baby food is to make it homemade. For as low as $5/week, you can make homemade organic, nutrient-rich baby food for your sweet babe. I like to make it in batches and freeze half of it for another week.

What do you need? All you need is a blender, food processor, baby bullet or something similar. I personally use the Baby Bullet system and love it! There are tons of recipes you can find online depending on what kinds of foods you would like to feed your baby. The baby bullet also comes with an awesome recipe book with foods you can feed your baby at different ages. Avoid rice cereal if you can.

Recipes: You can find certain healthy produce for extremely cheap. My favorites are cantaloupe and sweet potato. Dry beans are fairly cheap as well. You just have to cook/boil and puree them. For most fresh produce you just have to puree it by adding water. Add as much as you desire for the right consistency for your baby.

Tough produce like zucchini, potatoes, carrots, etc need to be boiled until they are soft before you can puree them. Meats will need to be thoroughly cooked before pureeing as well. There are so many possibilities!

Some of my favorites include – pear, avocado, sweet potato, apple, chicken w/herbs, carrots, peas or any combination of those, depending on baby’s age and readiness.
